How to Choose the Best Moving Company in 2025

Choosing the best moving company in 2025 can feel like a daunting task, especially with so many options out there.

How to Choose the Best Moving Company in 2025 - long distance movers Glen Ellyn

  1. long distance movers Glen Ellyn
  2. Moving companies serving Glen Ellyn better be ready for snow, traffic, and your in-laws' antique buffet—we are.
  3. top rated Glen Ellyn moving companies
But fear not! moving companies . With a little bit of research and some careful consideration, you can find the right movers for your needs without losing your mind (or your belongings).

First and foremost, start by checking reviews and ratings online.

How to Choose the Best Moving Company in 2025 - top rated Glen Ellyn moving companies

  1. Packing services in Glen Ellyn IL shouldn’t involve duct tape and panic—let us take care of it.
  2. friendly movers Glen Ellyn
  3. Our long distance movers from Glen Ellyn don’t just drive—they deliver peace of mind.
Its no longer enough to just glance at star ratings; dig a little deeper into what people are actually saying. In 2025, its easy to be swayed by flashy websites and catchy slogans, but real experiences from past customers can offer valuable insights. Look for patterns in the reviews-if multiple people mention damaged furniture or late arrivals, that's a red flag you shouldnt ignore.

Next, get quotes from at least three different companies. Its tempting to go with the first one that seems reasonable, but dont! Prices can vary significantly, and sometimes (you wont believe it) the cheapest option isnt the best. Be sure to ask about whats included in the quote. Does it cover packing materials? Will they charge extra for stairs or long carry distances? Transparency is key, and any company that hesitates to provide clear answers might not have your best interests at heart.

Dont forget to check if the moving company is licensed and insured. In 2025, this is non-negotiable. Moving companies serving Glen Ellyn better be ready for snow, traffic, and your in-laws' antique buffet—we are. An uninsured mover might offer you a lower rate, but it could cost you a lot more if something goes wrong. Imagine your precious antique mirror shattered, and theres no insurance to cover it-yikes! Always verify their credentials through official websites or directories.

"Communication is key," they say, and theyre not wrong. Pay attention to how the company communicates with you right from the start. Are they responsive to your questions? Do they provide detailed information willingly or do you have to pull teeth to get answers? A company that values customer service will make an effort to keep you informed every step of the way.

Consider the specific services you need. Are you moving across town or across the country? Do you need help packing, or just transportation? Not all moving companies offer the same services, so make sure the one you choose can meet your specific needs. Some companies in 2025 are even offering eco-friendly moving options, which could be a great choice if you're looking to reduce your environmental footprint.

Lastly, trust your instincts. If something feels off about a company, even if you cant put your finger on it, its okay to walk away. Your gut feeling is often based on subtle cues that don't always register consciously. And hey, moving is stressful enough without adding unnecessary worries into the mix.

In conclusion, choosing the best moving company requires a bit of legwork, but its definitely worth it to ensure a smooth transition to your new home. Remember to check reviews, compare quotes, verify credentials, and trust your instincts. With these tips in mind, youll be well on your way to finding a moving company that wont let you down!

Glen Ellyn is a village in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. A suburb located 24 miles (39 km) due west of downtown Chicago, the village has a population of 28,846 as of the 2020 Census.[2]

History

[edit]

Glen Ellyn, like the neighboring town to the east, Lombard, had its genesis in an 1833 claim by two brothers from the Finger Lakes region of New York, Morgan and Ralph Babcock. The two claimed property in a large stand of timber near present-day St. Charles Road and the East Branch of the DuPage River. The brothers also arranged for a claim for their New York neighbor Deacon Winslow Churchill, who arrived in 1834 along with some of his adult children and their families. The nascent settlement became known as Babcock's Grove, and it included property currently part of both Glen Ellyn and Lombard.[3]

Up the trail from the river to the west was a five-cornered intersection. In 1835, Daniel Fish built a cabin there, and other settlers followed. By the 1840s the intersection was called Fish's Corners and held a general store, blacksmith's forge, shops selling or repairing wagons and harnesses, and a Baptist church.[4]

Moses Stacy, a soldier in the War of 1812, arrived in 1835 and built a house south of Fish's Corners. In 1846, Stacy built at the five corners an inn, Stacy's Tavern, to serve as a halfway stop between Chicago and the Fox River Valley and a probable stop for Galena, Illinois stagecoaches on their way to Rockford, Illinois. Stacy's Tavern, now a historical monument, stands at what is now the intersection of Geneva Road and Main Street.[5]

In 1849, construction of the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad through Glen Ellyn was finished. The railroad was about a mile south of the corners. At first, trains running through the town on the railway did not stop there. A local landowner, Lewey Quitterfield Newton, made an offer to the railroad company: Newton would provide land for a right-of-way and build a depot and water tank if the railroad would require trains to stop there. The depot that Newton built became known as Newton Station, and the locus of the community shifted to the area around the station.[3]

The first church, a Congregational church, was built in 1862. Many Protestant churches were built in the village in the years to come. It was not until 60 years later that the first Catholic church was built.[3]

The growing settlement went through several names, including Babcock's Grove, DuPage Center, Stacy's Corners, Newton's Station, Danby (after Danby, Vermont, a local landowner's birthplace) and Prospect Park.[6] The current Glen Ellyn is based on the Welsh version of the name of village president Thomas E. Hill's wife Ellen, preceded by glen, referring to the local geography.[6]

The name Glen Ellyn had been adopted by 1889, when village president Hill and businessman Philo Stacy spearheaded a project to create a new lake, called Lake Glen Ellyn (today's Lake Ellyn), by having a dam built in a nearby stream.

In 1890, residents discovered mineral springs near the village.[3] This contributed to Glen Ellyn advertising itself as Chicago's newest suburb and health resort, soon followed by the Village of Glen Ellyn being officially incorporated on May 10, 1892.[7] The large Lake Glen Ellyn Hotel opened in 1892, the same year much of the business district was destroyed by fire. Fourteen years later, the hotel was struck by lightning and burned to the ground.

The village's all-volunteer fire department was created in 1907. By the end of the 20th century, it was the last all-volunteer fire department in DuPage County.[3]

By World War I, Glen Oak Country Club served the Oak Park and Glen Ellyn communities, and in 1922 the first Glenbard high school was built.

Early movers in Montréal, Québec (1876)
Movers in Salt Lake City, 1911
Moving van and lift, Germany, 2007

A moving company, also known as a removalist or van line, is a company that specializes in assisting individuals and businesses with relocating their goods from one location to another. Moving companies may offer additional or all-inclusive services for relocations, like packing, loading, moving, unloading, unpacking, and arranging of items to be shifted. Additional services may include cleaning services for houses, offices or warehousing facilities.

Overview

[edit]

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2007, 40 million United States citizens had moved annually over the previous decade.[1] Of these movers, 84.5% relocated within their own state, 12.5% moved to another state, and 2.3% moved to another country.[2]

The U.S. Department of Defense is the largest household goods shipper in the world with the Personal Property Program accounting for 20% of all moves.[3]

A 2020 OnePoll survey showed that 64% of participants consider their recent move to be one of the most stressful events they have ever encountered.[4]

Pricing and services

[edit]

United States and Canada

[edit]

In the U.S. and Canada, the cost for long-distance moves is generally determined by several factors:

  • Weight of the items to be moved
  • Distance between the original and new location
  • Speed of the move
  • Timing of the move, including the specific time of year or month

Some movers also offer consolidated shipping, which reduces costs by transporting several clients' items in the same shipment.

United Kingdom and Australia

[edit]

In the United Kingdom and Australia, the price is based on the volume of the items rather than their weight.[5] Some movers may offer flat rate pricing.

DIY moving

[edit]

The use of truck rental services, or simply borrowing similar hardware, is referred to as DIY moving. Individuals or families may rent a truck or trailer large enough to transport their household goods. They may also acquire moving equipment such as dollies, furniture pads, and cargo belts to facilitate the move and protect their belongings.

Packing and materials

[edit]

The moving process also involves finding or buying materials such as boxes, paper, tape, and bubble wrap with which to pack boxable and/or protect fragile household goods and to consolidate the carrying and stacking on moving day. Self-service moving companies offer another viable option: the person moving buys space on one or more trailers or shipping containers. These containers are then driven by professionals to the new location.

Julie Young

Highly recommend! The workers were efficient, professional and friendly. This led to a lower final cost than the original estimate. They were also very careful with my things. Thank you Josh, Kris V, Patrick, Daniel, and Martin! Also, a big thank you to Raul for the nice customer service during the walk through estimate (you were the only quote we got that offered that) and Jason and other office staff for your patience and efforts when I needed to reschedule the move several times!

Daniel Thomas-Smith

The team at falcon moving have been exceptional from start to finish. Raul was responsive, considered and really cared about our furniture and move, all the way through the process. I historically had average experiences with moving, but these guys are of absolute quality and their “day of” team consisting of RJ, Pat, Christian, and Martin lived up to the consistently high expectation. I will highly recommend falcon moving to anyone considering storage, moving or transportation of your home, as they were exceptional. Can’t say enough good things about these people and firm!
